DrupalCamp starts today!

It's finally here - the first DrupalCamp in South-Africa. DrupalCamp Johannesburg

Here's a list of what will be covered in this course.

Ever read an article..

...that had you nodding in agreement all the way through?

From the pen of Seth Godin, "How to live happily with a great designer".

Chest weights

(apologies to anyone who thought the title referred to a new type of bench press or unperkifier..). I dropped off my income tax return forms at SARS, yesterday. My heart (also located in my chest, mind) sank to my shoes as the approach revealed a staggeringly long queue of cars, only to discover it to be a veritable SARS family drive-thru!

"Sir, would you like flyers with that?"

Über Update 4.7

A lot of work on client stuff and no play on ÜberEllis.com makes AE a dull boy. Yes, friends, ÜberEllis has joined the ranks of Drupal 4.7 sites.

And what an update it is! My favourites include (but are not limited to): Free-tagging (with auto-complete) for categories. More playfulness with blocks (almost anywhere now). Primary (and secondary) links as menus. Advanced search (yes! yes! yes!) and more (at the risk of sounding like a cheezy radio ad). Seriously. I recommend watching the What's New in Drupal 4.7 videocast available from drupal.org.

Apart from the range of mindblowing new features, I'm looking forward to a bucketload of new feature-rich contributed modules of which the most exciting is probably the Content Construction Kit (or affectionatly dubbed "CCK") allowing the freedom for the discerning IA to create a CMS platform for clients that speaks their language. I don't see myself installing another Drupal without it.

Closely followed by probably the most mentioned module in other modules, the Views module. I've not experienced a contributed module giving more power to the non-developer (or tres mois) on so many logical levels. At last, access to information in fast, effective and not to mention flexible ways.

A special thanks to Strider for taking some time out of his schedule to allow me (who is getting mighty comfortable with MySQL and command-lines and other geeky words) and ÜberEllis.com the independance needed to grow and play. Thanks dude! :)

Special Talents

My domestic worker has managed to hang one of my shirts with half a peg today. I don't know if you're familiar with the workings of a peg, but I can tell you this much... They're like scissors. One needs both parts for a fully functional set.

I took the shirt down in the dark, so I'm still not entirely sure how she managed to do it..

Presenting "überWeiss" - a qüb project theme

UberWeiss ScreenyFor as long as I've been in web development have I wanted to make a mostly white site. In reality, this is the latest edition in the qüb project, the bare-bones starting point edition.

UberWeiss Screenshot

A screenshot for posterity, for from here I intend add the sparkly slowly but surely, and hopefully document the "Getting the most from your qüb theme" section for this site. Also hopefully implememting the necessary changes to support drupal 4.7, cck and views (these will soon be standard on all new sites, I can gaurentee that).

Update: überWeiss theme now available for download.

Ode to Friends

An amalgamation of friends and influences have come together into the perfect setup in my bedroom.

Shortly after experiencing Mac splendour, I've come to the very hard conclusion that working is better on a Mac, and PC gaming might be a touch overrated.

First off, \\family welcomes Stevie the TV to the ranks, and loads of thanks need to go to (still blogless) irrational for making that possible.

With the efforts of Vertice and god, I'm the proud owner of a PS2 too (Still undubbed! Shocking!). Being a lover of platform and adventure type games, I'll not miss the constant driver updates, or the installations ad nauseum.

Now li5a and Peter(?) PS2 share my bedroom from where I can online chat, update a website or two, blog, watch a DVD and play a game (or 9). Yes friends - I'll be keeping myself busy with titles like Shadow of the Colossus, Viewtiful Joe, Rez and Psychonauts - not to mention catching up on some classic rpgs like Final Fantasy.

To my friends
You all kick ass and whip booty. I cannot explain how happy all of the above has made me, and to you all, I dedicate this blog entry and loads of love! I'm indeed extremely fortunate to know you.

Bring on the Lager

St. Patricks Day DoodleWishing you all a Happy St. Patrick's day with a quick PhotoShop doodle. Make doodles and merry all day long!

The time has come to seperate the Über from the Evil..

All Evil goes down today, so if you still haven't, update your feeds.

What a beautiful day

The temperature is moderate under a grey sky of featureless clouds, after all night rain. I could see myself pretending to be sick on a day like this one to spend under a duvet with plenty of media. How can something so wrong feel so right?

And that is probably the soppiest intro EVER for a birthday wish...

Congratulations Obsidian, turning 11 today!

My sinuses have seen better days, come to think of it...and there's a little scratchiness to the throat.. *koff* *koff*
